Undesired change of file/folder name

By jj.vergier ·
Hello,

After redimensionning a partition on an 80 GB hard disk , using PartitionMagic6 utility, the characters of many of the files and folders in this unit have are no more properly read by WIN98SE explorer ( dislays "'~&L?? and so on ).

Someof these folders contains the original recovery data of the system partition, some I'd like to keep them - toherwise I'd have formatted this partition.

Has somebody an idea about that ?

Thanks !

Hi, I would try just reinstalling your OS. This should take care of renaming the folders you need to use. Then after you do that, go through and look at the folders that have wierd names and move them to a new directory. Reboot and try all of your configurations and programs. If there are no problems, then go and delete those useless folders to clear up disk space. Hope this could help!

Hello,
Thanks for your help, but in fact I formatted the partition. I'll have to rely on my GHOST images of the system one...
Just for the fun (?? ), Windows Explorer couldn't find the weirdly named folders ( message "this folder doesn't exist" ) - except once, in safe mode - but only once. I still have some things to learn.
