Unhiding workstations using GPO etc

By alanb ·
Historically we have been hiding machines on the network to clean up browse windows by using the net config server command.

As this is causing problems with management software we would like to now unhide all machines through Group Policy.

Thesetting is under HKLM in registry I believe. If no GPO fix is available I would appreciate any ideas for changing this setting en masse.

Thanks,

Alan

Unhiding workstations using GPO etc

Well, if you run logon scripts, you can just put the following in:

NET CONFIG SERVER /HIDDEN:NO

That will unhide any machine. So, put that line in your logon scripts and when your users log in, it will take care of it for you.

hope this helps

As our environment contains downlevel (NT4) clients my initial request (via a GPO) would not work fully.

I would appreciate other workarounds.
