If you want to remove Windows 2000 and only have 98, than you will need to format the drive to clean it completely. You will need to back up anything you would like to keep. Now insert your win98 boot disk and boot from your floppy. wait til it gives you your choices and select to sart in does with cdrom support. Once you get to a command promt type format c: this will format your drive to a fat32 file system and make it ready to install windows 98. now from the command prompt you can change directory to your cd rom and type setup whih will launch setup of Windows 98.

Do you have the option of Formatting your drive, then Fresh install of Win 98?
>Format c: (will erase drive completely)
>you may have to use fdisk to check partition. It might be NTFS if you had win2kPro loaded. It would have to be FAT32 for Win98. If it is NTFS, you'll have to delete the partition, then recreate it as FAT32.
>Then start the 98 install using 98 boot disk, and 98 CD-ROM disk
If this is not an option, check out Microsoft Article Q250456

If your drive is formated as a NTSF drive, then you need to back up all important files and settings.

Delete ALL partitions.

Boot from the W98 Startup disk, run fdisk, and setup your FAT32 partitions.
Install W98.

If your drive is formatted as a FAT32 drive, you can get by without formatting.
1. Boot from a floppy.
2. Delete ALL files in the root folder (C:)
3. Delete ALL Windows files. (C:\Windows and subfolders)

Boot from the W98 startup disk, and install 98.

Either way, you will need to re-install all applications, drivers and security updates.

Don't just delete the route directory and install again. It's too messy. Just make sure you backup what you want and do as the first couple of posts suggested.
If you can't get a hold of a boot disk you should be able to boot from the CD by making the CD-Rom the first boot device in the BIOS and waiting for the prompt at startup. It will either ask you to press a key to boot to CD or it will bring up a list with the CD-Rom option included.
Once you choose CD it will then give you a list of options. Choose command prompt with CD rom support. Again if you don't have a boot disk you can still Format using the CD. Format is sitting in [cd-rom drive]:\win98
When you boot to CD it will create a directory and dump a bunch of tools into it. It usualy defaults to the directory it created. In the Dir will be fdisk.
Hopefuly you have a boot disk :)
