Uninstall CA etrust antivirus

By tintoman ·
Does ANYONE know a sure fire way of getting rid or Computer Associates eTrust AV software? my client is trying to install McAfee update to Ver 12 and I cannot get it to run, of course I have done all the usual stuff and there is nothing visible to suggest etrust is still present but McAfee is adamant that it's still there
Thanks guys

Have you tried

by Tig2 In reply to Uninstall CA etrust antiv ...

A reg clean? My experience is that will generally do the trick.

A good light-weight tool is CCleaner available at http://www.ccleaner.com. A couple of things before you begin...

The tool prompts to make a backup of the registry. DO THIS! I put the backup on the desktop so I can find it easily.

You will want to run the tool recursively in order to catch everything. When it returns no more issues, you can close the tool and reboot. On successful boot, you can get rid of the backup you made. Create a restore point here.

You should be able to get McAfee to run its update.

Good luck!

Tried it with Reg Mech

I did try that with Registry Mechanic to no avail I even manually deleted all the registry entries relating to the product, and I tried to do a clean install of McAfee instead of the upgrade....you guessed it nothing doing

There's a hook somewhere

by Tig2 In reply to Tried it with Reg Mech

I'm not as familiar with the CA product. Did you check through Explorer to see if it dumped a tie into an installed application? Did it dump a tie into the System 32 folder? How about IE? Those are the first places I would look for it. If that is the case, your reg cleaner might not have found it. Try also a second scan using a different cleaner, just to cover the base. I have heard people say that they were able to find additional hooks by doing this.

Let me know what you find.
