Uninstall Office XP

By surrealx ·
I have got a Windows 2000 computer with Office XP on it. All office applications developed a problem when opening them where it would prompt with the error message: ?This Patch Package could not be opened. Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it, or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows installer patch package.? I then tried to reinstall it, and got the same error message as soon as I start the setup, and Windows Insaller loads. So I can?t even get to the stage to uninstall it. I have run MSI Cleanup utility, and Office removal tool, but still am unable to remove, or reinstall office. Does anyone know what Registry key, or File I can delete to get past this error message.

Thanks
Benn

See if the following will help
1)Insert the first of your Office CD in the CD-ROM drive
2)Double-click My Computer
3)Right-click the icon for your CD-ROM drive, then click open
4)Double-click Files,then double-click Pfiles
5)Double-click MSoffice,then double-click Office10
6)Double-click Offcln.exe

That is the Office Removal tool that I had already tried. As stated in the question. Thanks for your help anyway.

Try opening Regedit and go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer
See if stuff is in there. This is where Windows Installer keeps it stuff. The Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp utility should have deleted this key.
So, if it is still there, try manually deleting it (make a backup of it first just to be safe!!!)
Reboot, then try to uninstall OfficeXP.

hope this helps
