Unlocking Read only files in MS Programs

By sam ·
My Pc crashed. Reinstaled win98,FP2000,from my backup. Files in one web directory are marked read only. I cannot edit the pages, to republish the site.

I belive this will be true in all win98 aplications, just cant figure it out.
Help!
Sam

Open Windows explorer
go to the directory that has all the files
Select them all
right click
select properties
check read only then uncheck read only box
close Windows explorer

Open a command prompt, then navigate to the target directory. At the prompt type:

attrib -r -h -s *.*

This should remove the Read-Only, Hidden, and System attributes of all files in the directory, and allow you to edit the files. If not, check the settings in your web server; you may not have given yourself permission to edit (I ran into this boneheaded oversight in Win2K - my own fault).
