Unmountable_Boot_Volume Error

By review9813 ·
I am running windows XP and when I attempt to boot up I get the following error:
Unmoutable_Boot_Volume Stop: 0x000000ED (0x82f68900,0xc0000006, 0x00000000,0x00000000) I tried to start up in Safe Mode, but the following I get the same error. I then tried to boot up from the CD Rom Drive but when I hold down R during the windows start up, it never goes to the CD Rom drive and the error msg comes up again. Please help.

Hold down "R"?

I confess I'm not familiar with that one.

To obviate the need for pressing a key to boot from CD every time you want to do so, press the key you use to get into BIOS setup, and change the boot order so that the system attempts to boot from CD before booting from the HDD.

Here is the relevant MS KB article:

In many cases the DEL or F2 keys will get you into the bios where you can set the first boot device to be your cd drive.
Also often the F12 key will bring up a boot menu so that you can choose a boot device.
