Unplugging Network Card – Changes What?

    Locked

    by bob ·

Does anyone know what exactly changes in Win2K Pro. if the Network Card is Unplugged. Or does anything change? Big LEGAL question over a pornographic bust.

    Need a answer fast…

Basically, if we unplug the CAT5 from the NIC will it change ANY configuration within WIN2K Pro and/or WIN2K Active Directory Server? Sounds minor, but its getting real touchy over these type of cases.

If your worried about any configuration changes then I recoment that you Write Lock the Orig. HD and mirror it with a second that you can remove and keep as a backup. That way if anything changes later on, you still have the copy to compare to.

If you unplug the Cat5 RJ45 from the NIC it will
show up on the taskbar as being unplugged. If you plug in back in 2 minutes later or a day later the connection is made again depending on what the time frame is for the IP lease.
At the present time I only have two RJ45 connectors in my office. I have 4 or 5 pc’s that I work on at a time and I swap the Cat 5 cable between them with no ill effects.

I suggest if you are worried about the user getting to the pc and changing/deleting data change his password to lock the user out.
