Unprotected network shares

By dgemcse ·
Anyone know of a tool to scan a windows network for unprotected shares? I have a big problem with users accepting defaults when sharing, and BugBear is showing up every day. We also STILL have funlove lurking about, and these unprotected shares are the culprit.

Eeye and other have tools to check for worm vulnerablity. Does anyone know of a tool to look for network shares that have no security?

Thanx....

A tool called SheildsUp! can be found here:
https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
just click the Test My Sheilds button.

Its good for probing for uprotected shares. It wont work too well if you're behind a firewall, as it will report the status ofthe firewall and not the PC.

GFI Network scanner is a free utility which can tell you that information. They have some other free tools, so check them out.

if you have properly updated antivirus running on the clients, even if they did have unprotected shares, it should be able to stop the virus. Our company has a policy which doesn't allow shares plus we disable the file sharing and printing service to maximize security.
