unstoppable Explorer window in NT 4.0

by mdot_tech . Updated 25 years, 5 months ago

Got a real head scratcher here….
Dell 866Mhz, Windows NT 4.0 SP6, newly imaged system. After user log in he is presented with an explorer window pointing to C:\programs.

We cannot figure out where this is being called from and while not harmful to the system it IS annoying to the user.

We have used sysedit to look in the autoexec.bat, win.ini, system.ini, config.sys, and ntlocal.cmd. We’ve also checked the startup folders. We have also scanned various parts of the registry looking for what might be calling this window without any success.

I even used a utility I found on the MS Knowledgebase called AUTORUNS.EXE that show everything being called upon login and still nothing!!!!!

Does anyone have any suggestions for someplace else we can look to make this window stop popping up. I can always re-image the system, but to me thats like burning down your house to kill a fly!
Any help would be appreciated
