Unwanted Programs

By jeremy ·
I accidentally approved a plug-in program to download when I was downloading from a website. The problem is that now it puts an icon in my system tray, and loads 2 menu bars into my internet explorer. How would I go about getting rid of this and other programs that load at startup, but do not appear in the startup folder? Also it does not appear in the Add/Remove programs. Help would be much appreciated with this annoying and bothersome problem. Thanks.

Try using the msconfig command if it applies for your operating system.

Sounds like a trojan...

Ad-aware 6.0 should remove it:

http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/

Download ad-aware and install it and completely scan your hdd/registry/memory. Delete anything it finds. Close and reboot. Then test. It should have cleared.

For sure, the same program will appear in the list of installed programs that can be uninstalled with the Add/suppress Programs. I think that the program should be Hotbar. Search also if an uninstall link has been added in the start menus.

It isbetter to uninstall using the normal way then to verify the cleanup with Ad-Aware 6 (http://www.lavasoft.nu/support/download/ ) or the one I prefer : SPYBOT Search and destroy(http://spybot.safer-networking.de/ ). Spybot is more precise with lots ofcomments and frequent online updates !

Download an install Spybot S&amp 1.1 (freeware)
Run it and look at the report, which is selfexplanatory. You can get rid of bad files, entries, found by Spybot.

Good luck
