    Unwanted Startup folder

    Locked

    by noog ·

Can anyone please tell me how to stop an unwanted folder (c:\winnt\system32) from openning every time I log onto my Winnt 4 notebook. I have checked the startup folder, and other startup files but can’t find out why it opens this folder. It becomes annoying having to close it everytime I log on.

    Thanks

You need to edit your registry. If you’re not familiar with that, do Run, type regedit and click OK.

You see an NT Explorer-type interface. The first thing you should do is back up your registry by clicking Registry, Export REgistry File… Give it a name like backup, and note where it’s being saved.

      Now you’re ready to work.

Navigate in the left pane to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion and then either Run, RunOnce, RunOnce, RunOnceEx. Look for a key inthe right pane that has a blank value (that is, something under Name but nothing under value), and delete it.

      That should do it.

Don’t forget the simple ones Sysco Kid!
First check in your startup folders, Start | Programs | Startup (There’s 2 of them in NT).
If it’s there right click the Start button, click Open, double click programs, then startup and if its there, deleteit (or put it onto the desktop if you think you may need it later.
If its not in that startup folder (you need to be logged on as an administrator for this) right click on the start button, click Open All Users and follow the instructions above.Hope this helps

You should also check the users folders under WINNT\SYSTEM\PROFILES. Check ALL USERS\PROGRAMS\STARTUP.
