Unwanted URL keeps appearing

By homeandofficeworks ·
A client of mine has been having problems accessing websites from time to time. A url keyed into the address line (ie: www.google.com) comes displays a website run by cesmarketing.com. The problem is not specifically related to any single website. It can happen when trying to get to MSN, Yahoo, Mcafee, etc... Once the Cesmarketing site gets in, there is often no way to get to the site you originally wanted to get to. Has anyone heard about this problem or does anyone know how to get rid ofthis unwanted web site?

Unwanted URL keeps appearing

by JamesRL In reply to Unwanted URL keeps appear ...

I had something similar happen on my home PC after going to a site which advertised the latest movie trailers. It modified the home page to its ad filled site, and changing it in the options menu did not a bit of good - when I'd restart explorer itwould come back.

I tried reinstalling explorer to no effect. Finally I found on the site buried deep in the menus, and menu to uninstall such a thing. As far as I can figure it modified a registry setting or modified a program to dynamically reset the home page everytime explorer launched.

I couldn't find their search engine, but I know that the website cexx.org contains useful information about such site. If they don't have something on yours, post in the discussions there and I'm sure someone will have heard of it and how to fight it.

James
