Update NT setup CD with SP

By nigel.bowen ·
Hi. I know it should be possible to redo (Slipstream/Overlay) NT setup CD's with the last SP to avoid the two passes. Anybody can tell me how this can be done SAFELY, for NT 4.0 Server (to SP6 ).

Or better still, how can I get a copy of an NT4 Server install that includes SP6.

The reason for this is that I need to install NT4 BDC server on a Dell 1750 that has onboard Broacom NICs that are only supported by SP6 and the server hasn?t a PCI slot for an old NIC, it has PCI 2 slots. I am in a bit of a bind.

Thank you. Nigel.

If you have a MSDN subscription or know someone that does, they should have access to Windows NT 4 with SP6 built-in.

You can download the entire SP6a and burn it onto a C

Then you wouldn't have to worry about the network card drivers. The full download is available here:

http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/nts/downloads/recommended/SP6/128bitX86/default.asp

That would allow you to install NT 4 and then place on the SP 6a files.

Let em make this easy for you. You can't do what you are trying to do. You can't overlay an OEM CD with SP 6A and have a Windows NT 4.0 SP 6 installation CD.

The easiest things to do would be:

Install NT 4 with SP1 on the new system without networking.
Install SP 6.
Laod the correct NIC drivers.
Have the system join the domain.

---OR---

Put Windows 2000 on the server and leave AD in Mixed mode.

---- OR ----

Put Windows 2003 on the server and leave it in Default Mode (which is the same as Windows 2000 in Mixed Mode).

---- OR -----

Find someone that has a MSDN subscription and get a copy of NT 4 with SP 6a built-in from them.
