[UPDATED] SLI nForce 650i SLI(C55) – How does BIOS restore work?

by older mycroft . Updated 18 years, 2 months ago

36 hours ago, I noticed file accesses slowing down, directory accesses taking far too long.

Event Viewer showed a string of errors with Event ID 11. There were 2 instances of this:

1. The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\D.
2. The driver detected a controller error on \Device\CDRom0.

So, it’s a 6 day old 500GB HDD which just happens to have ALL the content from my Acer laptop (as a safe means of backup). I had then cleaned out the laptop HDD for efficiency.

Phoned the Tech Support for MESH:
He suggests that I reinstall the OS (XP Pro) which is sitting on a separate, smaller HDD in case that might fix the problem which he thinks is a driver issue!

Any thoughts ??

Should I lose all my newly updated OS in case it is just a driver issue ??

Another thing:
The next boot was interminably slow. I assumed it was because the page file that had been sitting on the missing disk was now also missing, so the OS was booting with no pagefile.

I transferred the pagefile back to the C: drive, but the boot is still 9 to 10 minutes.

Do you reckon the other drive is going ?
