Upgrade 2003 standard to enterprise?

By bklos63 ·
Can I upgrade Server 2003 R2 Standard edition to enterprise? I need to add more than the 4gb memory and just can't seem to find a straight answer anywhere on this.

No. You have to do a complete reinstall.

Windows 2000 Advanced Server can be upgraded to Windows Server 2003 Enterprise, but the Standard Edition of Server 2003 cannot be upgraded to Enterprise Edition. You'll need to **** it away and reinstall from scratch. The 64 bit edition of Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard can see beyond the 4GB limit on a 64 bit server platform like AMD Opteron or Intel Xeon with physical address extensions. See the link below for a side by side comparison of different editions of W2K3:

You have to start from scratch and install the new OS. There is no upgrade available between the different 2003 versions.
