What do I need to consider when upgrading Netware 4.11 and 5.0 to 6.5 and Groupwise to 6(.5) and boarderManager?
What is the best order? What extra/hidden costs/work might spring out at me?
In short, what is the best plan of action? I dont need a step by step guide to the upgrade, just considerations.

Some additional info is needed.

Are you upgrading 1 server or several? Keeping existing hardware or installing new?

Do you already have GW and Bordermanager? What versions?

How many users are you supporting?

For the most part, if thehardware is relatively new, you can put NW6 and etc. on it. The newer software is more RAM intensive -- 512MB is really the minimum to start with for NW6; 1GB may be what you need.

Having BorderManager and GW on separate servers is also a good idea. Since server licenses are essentially free under NW6.x, I'd plan on it.

If you are putting in at least one new server, check out the Migration Wizard from Novell. it actually works pretty well.

I have done 3 upgrades to GW 6.5 already. One from GW 5.5, one from GW 5.5 EP and one from GW 6. Please feel free to e-mail me if you need any help as you go. I would be happy to try to assist you if you need it.
