Upgrade Duel Core - Quad Core

By Michael34 ·
Have a bit of an issue with the current 2.66 Ghz Duel core I am running so I plan to get a quad core 2.66 Ghz of tigerdirect. When I do this will everything still be alright or will I need to reload my Operating System? Was just curious before I do the upgrade.

Depends on your M'Board here. If it supports the Quad Core CPU or not. If it doesn't you'll need to replace the M'Board as well as the CPU and quite likely the RAM as well.

Just because the Quad Core is the right socket doesn't mean that your M'Board will support it.

But if it does all that is required after fitting a new CPU is opening the BIOS making sure that the New CPU is correctly identified and then save the changes when you exit the BIOS. When Windows opens it should detect the new Hardware and install the required Drivers though depending on which OS you have you may need to either insert the OS Install/Recovery Disc or connect to the Internet to allow your OS to download the required Drivers from the Net.
