Can you upgrade from usb 1.1 to usb 2.0
using a software patch or does it have to be

USB2 is a measure of how fast can your USB device handle data . It depends on your hardware specs ,you cannot apply a patch ,same way you cannot use a software patch to change your processor speed . Maybe you meant a firmware revision which would allow USB2- compliant devices to make full usage of USB2?

Upgrading to USB 2.0

by Boomslang In reply to Upgrade from usb 1.1 to 2 ...

If your computer does not already have a USB 2.0 port, you will have to get a plug-in card with USB 2.0 ports and if you need a USB hub, get a USB 2.0 hub as well. Cables should be ok as the speeds supported by this spec were supposedly in future planning all along for USB.

Windows XP doesn't support USB 2.0, but there should be an upgrade patch for that available on their website.

You'll want to have your USB 2.0 devices on their own USB port anyway as there will be a huge performance penalty for mixing low speed 1.5 and 12mb devices with a 480mb device.
