Upgrade from WinME to win2k Pro

I am currently upgrading a HP8831. It is currently WinME and i have upgraded to WIN2k. My modem is a conexantHSF, It is not being detected by win2k and i am having trouble getting it connected. Could someone who has had the same problem give a step by step guide to fix this problem i would be grateful.
