Upgrade to IOS5 on a Verizon iPhone 4

By pfeiffep ·
Beware of upgrading your iPhone OS! The process starts with a sync operation which lulls the user into believing everything on your phone will be correctly synchronized. This CERTAINLY is not the case, at least in this one experience. The iPhone 4 was rendered totally unusable (emergency phone calls only) and had to be initialized by Verizon as a new phone .... which rendered EVERYTHING on the phone lost.

After an hour on the phone with V support and a subsequent hour with Apple support the only thing left was an appointment at the 'Genius" bar at the local Apple store. It was the 'Genius' who stated that the synchronizing process was superior to a back-up, but wehn pressured about the missing pictures stated that the sync process doesn't touch the pics.

The Genius did effectively set the phone to functional, however not the pics, and none of the apps which all had to be re-installed.

The most important aspect, imho, of this painful process is the lack of proper design on Apple's part, there certainly should have been a warning prior to entering the synchronization that pictures should be MANUALLY backed up. Apple should be ashamed of themselves!
