Upgrade Advisor

Before you make a decision, download and run the Windows 7 upgrade advisor on your system.

That way, you will know just how much of your hardware and software will need to be upgraded.

If your system came with Windows 2000, it might be best to just buy a new system.

upgrade advisor . . .

by Who Am I Really In reply to Upgrade Advisor

windows 7 upgrade advisor doesn't run on anything less than a system already running XP SP2
see system requirements here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1B544E90-7659-4BD9-9E51-2497C146AF15&displaylang=en

the chances of a win2k system being able to run XP efficiently is slim

however, depending on your location
a refurb /off lease return XP box could be an option,
as you could end up paying more for the upgrade CD, than a whole box with XP already installed
OEM XP CD's are cheap but they don't do upgrade in place, it must be a clean install overwriting the previous OS, programs & user data.

edit to add the following link to TigerDirect Refurb / Off Lease systems:
