Upgrade to Word 97 NOT working!

I have a Microsoft Word 97 UPGRADE CD but I have lost the previous disks which I was able to upgrade from before. I had to rebuild my computer from scratch (after a nasty virus killed it)and now I can’t install Word cause it keeps asking for a previous installation which I have lost. Can I still install Word from this CD without having to buy the whole program? HELP!

  If you registered your original copy, you may be able to contact MS about replacement disks. You need the first disk of the series (or CD) to do the upgrade.

  One workabout:
  If you have other office-like programs; like Lotus Wordpro /or wordperfect.
  You can install this program and use the upgrade edition.
