Upgrade to XP

By qb4006 ·
I have several Win 2K PC's I need to upgrade to XP. I have an AD network. Whats the fastest way to do this and keep user data? Should I back up the data and do fresh installs or should I just do a straight upgrade to XP one at a time?

You would be better off to back up the data and do a fresh install. If you get XP upgrade CDs and something goes wrong with the PCs in the future and you have to re-install XP from scratch, you would need to start by installing Win2K first.

Backup the data wipe the HDD's and do a clean install of XP Pro. If there are more than 5 computers involved use a Volume License copy of XP Pro and any other MS software that you require.

Had a similar issue.

Found it best to back the data up and then wipe the data...and tehn do the upgrade.

Might take a bit more time but will ensure a clean install.
