Upgrade W2k Domain to W2k3 with Exchange 2000

by cj_mcnix . Updated 18 years, 8 months ago

I currently have a single server W2K domain running Exchange 2000. The client is adding a W2k3 server to take over normal DC tasks (DNS, DHCP, logons, etc.), and leaving the W2k/Exchange 2000 server until March 2008 at which time they will purchase another W2k3 server and replace the W2k Exchange server.

The basic migration for *the first part of the project* seems easy enough:
– Install W2k3 server as member server,
– Run adprep / forestprep and adprep /domainprep from the *second* W2K3 CD
– DCPROMO the W2k3 server.

Since Exchange 2000 won’t run on Windows Server 2003, I assume I can’t install the Exchange Tools on the new server and must continue to use the AD on the old server to create/modify mailboxes. Is this true?

Am I going to get hit by any nasty surprises because I missed something? Any one see any issues I’m going to have?

Thanks for your time!!
