Upgrade Win98-Use AOL-Modem doesn't work

By ginap ·
After an upgrade to Win 98 was made on a computer that uses AOL, the modem doesn't work. The following message is received in modem properties/diagnostics: The modem failed to respond. Make sure it is properly connected and turned on. If it is an internal modem or is connected, verify that the interupt for the port is properly set. According to HP documentation that came with computer, the Com Port should be 2, but the modem shows Com Port 1, and I do not know how to change it.

I would recommend that you use hyperterminal and see if it recognizes the modem at all. If it does, and you can dial into a local library system (or some local site) through hyperterminal, then your modem is fine.

If the above is fine, then I suggest that you re-install AOL. Sometimes when you re-install the Operating System, files that AOL uses get overwritten with older version. Thus a reinstall of AOL should update the files and resolve the problem.
