Upgrading a laptop hard drive

by ecwinslow . Updated 16 years, 10 months ago

It’s been just long enough since I did this that I don’t remember: what software (free is better than pay) is available to mass copy (with boot tracks etc.) a drive before swapping in a new (presumably bigger) one? “Ghosting” it’s sometimes called.

Of course you need the new drive (pretty cheap these days if you don’t go for the max available) and a USB drive enclosure (so cheap now it’s ridiculous not to have one lying around). And the physical swapping after copying is pretty easy on the last three or more laptops I’ve had.

It’s the software I’m concerned with. Some drives have come with a program, but I’m just looking for opinions. (I don’t “tweet”.) (I’m using Vista.)
