    by Vs3rAbVs3r ·

I want to upgrade storage in my iphone 6s+ but I am wondering if it is really necessary to buy one of that very expensive programs like JCprogrammer or something similiar? Is it possible to just replace nand storage from my current 16gb to 64/128gb and go into dfu mode and restore IOS wih itunes somehow?

Unless they solder more RAM in the phone, very costly and not easy, I don’t think anybody can expand the storage memory in any cell phone. Cheaper to buy a replacement phone with more memory and transfer your phone contents.

By the “programs” I mean some repair tool you can connect to some special computer program. So, I want to make sure I understand what you just wrote – It is necessary to expand RAM if I want to upgrade storage? I thought these two things are not connected in any way.

You’re right: storage is not related to RAM.
But both is hardware. And you can’t replace hardware by software you buy and download.

Anyway, you can’t replace or extend the storage in a phone. Any Apple shop or phone repair company will confirm that. Just go and visit a few.

I agree with Kees on this. When the Apple iPhone as first introduced and still does today, there is no way to expand memory in the phone itself. Instead, Apple chose to use Cloud storage that they keep in their own servers/storage for their customers (many pay a monthly fee for larger amounts of storage). Apple decided long ago not to allow SD cards in their phones. Samsung is now doing the same thing when they started to drop SD cards in their devices. My last Samsung Galaxy with an SD card slot was my S7 and today I am using the S21 phone.

My personal needs do not require an SD card, but Samsung does offer cloud storage under their name brand for those who do need or want it. Sorry if I was comparing RAM with regular storage in my eaflier post. Stuff happens….

Possible but costly. More than a larger storage model of said iphone.

You can see the procedure at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4DYNkDaDzs so you know what is involved. The cost of the gear involved is much more than the phone.

And the cost for this to be done here is too much for a phone this old.

That said I did find a 64GB iPhone 7 for under 200 when I needed one. I didn’t need new phone as this was for a demo.

Yeah, that is what I mean by expanding storage guys. I would like to upgrade it because I need more space but also becuase I like fix things. I wanted to just buy nand storage and do some soldering but you said that this repair toolkit with pc program is necessary? Because when I replace iphone’s 6s+ battery there was no problem at all. No need for some electronic tools or programs.
The tool I’m talking about is in 6:41 in this video:

          Unsure of your question.

The video is very complete about how to accomplish the upgrade. If you feel you want to try this and skip steps, nothing stops you from trying. While those that do such upgrades know you can’t skip the steps, why not try it out and learn yourself?

you can transfer your data to iTunes or Google and later delete the files on your iphone. freeing up the space.
