Upgrading my CPU

I bought a faster processor and when I put it in and turned it on I got a blank screen. It's the same type, same brand, what am I missing? Please help.

Take it out and re-seat it, also make sure you put the heat sink back on correctly. if it is exactly the same you shouldn't have any issues.

You need to use a CPU that the M'Board supports

It may be the same Socket type but the M'Board doesn't need to support that type or Speed of CPU that you fitted.

If you care to post back with the system Make & Model or M'Board Make & Model we can tell you what type of CPU's it supports but without knowing more it may just be that you have replaced a Celeron Type CPU with a Pentium Type CPU and the M'Board doesn't support Pentium Type CPU's. This is quite common with some NB's.

reset bios?

Bios settings may need changing to suit new cpu spec if it wasnt recognised, assuming its in the socket properly. What exact kind of 'blank screen' blue? black? got a cursor flashing in the corner,get any post beeps?

You may need to change some Jumpers or Switches on the M'Board before this CPU will work.
