Upgrading my video card - what to buy?

By lt1transamgt ·
Hello,
Right now I have a 32mb Nvidia AGP video card and I would like to upgrade to a 64mb AGP card. I am not sure if the ATI is better or if I should get another Nvidia. I would like the Ti version and not the MX and would also like to spend around $100. Does anyone have any recommendations? Is there a website that reviews cards and has customer reviews also? Thanks,George

I personally prefer the Nvidia products, but your mileage may vary. A very good resource for performance reviews, pricing etc is at CNET.

Take a look here:

http://computers.cnet.com/hardware/0,10121,0-1107-402-0,00.html?tag=st.re.9870989.dir.1107-402-0

delete any spaces in the URL

Good luck, hope this helps!

I had an old nvidia tnt2 and upgraded to an ATI 9000 Pro from Newegg.com, the price is under $100 including shipping and it has more horsepower than my 900mghz duron system can handle. I LIKE IT! The nvidia 4200 seems fairly reasonable in price but ATI is back as the high-end gaming standard now with the performance on its' 9700 line. Those fall in $300-400 range like the nvidia 4600. I would like to see how those perform in comparisons on a networked host gaming system with 4 or more users, Toms hardware gave some nice specs on up to the 4600. Chioce and price are up to you, I've had good luck with newegg.com especially with the shipping charges, Try pricewatch.com for comparison shopping. I'ld still recommend the ati 9000 pro price/ performance wise.
Enjoy!

If you want info on graphics cards from gamers, try these: PC Gamer past articles by "The Vedee". His evaluations on different graphics cards for the current game environment is great. Nov 2002 issue, he mentions a new ATI card that beats out Nvidiahands down. Also Planethardware is another source of tech writeups. Overclocker Cafe is another great site for hardware evaluations. In my opinion, you can't go wrong with a Geforce 3 Ti 500 128 MB or a Geforce 4 Ti 4600 128 MB both from Newegg.com (best prices, amazing shipping! order Monday, get Thursday or Friday!). For $100.00 ? $126.00 plus shipping and tax will get you a Gainward Geforce 4 Ti 4200 64 MB card from Newegg.com. $108.00 plus shipping and tax will get you a Gainward Geforce 3Ti 200 64 MB card from Newegg.com
