Upgrading NT4 Domain to Win 2000 Domain

I am planning to upgrade NT4 Domain at work. We have Pentium 133 MHz 128MB RAM running NT4 PDC and PII 350 256MB RAM running NT4 BDC, supporting about 50 user accounts. I know I cannot upgrade the PDC to Windows 2000 Domain because the hardware is not capable of expanding CPU and memory… We are buying a new machine, PIII 800 MHz with 512 MB RAM. How should we upgrade to Windows 2000 Domain with Active Directory? Do I install NT4 Server on PIII 800 MHz as BDC, promote it to PDC, demote P133MHzPDC to BDC, take P133MHz BDC offline (in case there is problem with upgrading?), then upgrade the new PDC PIII 800MHz to Windows 2000 Server, setup Active Directory, then also upgrade PII 350MHz to Windows 2000 Server also? Finally retire P133MHz ifthe upgrade is successful, if not restore P133 back to the network? Please advice 🙂
    Thank you.

I’d just start with 2000 on the 800, Decide on the AD structure and take advantage of the upgrade to work out any logical kinks in the network, Attach it to the network as a member of the domain, then configure it for DNS and AD while taking the 133off line. Allow the 350 to remain bdc during the configuration, migrating its settings to the new PDC (800). Good luck with the project
