Upgrading Office 2000 Pro. To Office XP

I want to upgrade from Office 2000 Professional Version 9.0.3822 to Office XP. Do I need to uninstall Office Pro and then Install Office XP, or can I just install over the Office Pro with the XP.
And if I have to uninstall Office Pro, will I looseand documents etc…..?
