What is your current storage? How much more do you need? For what kind of data?

HDD is still used by most. HDD has gotten so much cheaper and better over the years. SSD is the newer kid on the block and while used by many, it still hasn’t overtaken the HDD market/users. At this point, it is a matter of opinion on which is better. It mostly depends how much data you need to store and your budget. I don’t think one is better than the other currently.

SSD’s are more expensive that the same size conventional HDD and you can get a standard SATA HDD many times the sixe of the same priced SSD.

It all depends on how much money you want to spend but from my prospective I would used a Conventioanl Big HDD than bother witht he supposedly faster smaller SSD.

        SSD vs HDD

        by kees_b ·

        I looked at bestbuy.com for a 1 TB HHD and a 1 TB SSD internal drive with a SATA-connection,

        Crucial BX 500 1 TB SSD : USD 69.99
WD Blue 1 TB HDD: USD 49.99

So, indeed, the HDD is cheaper than the SSD. But the SSD has a higher max transfer speed (540 vs 150 megabytes/second) and a much faster access time than the 5400 rpm HDD. So if storage size is the most important (for large files like movies, for example) the HDD is better choice, but if faster access is most important (such as on a system disk) the SSD is a better choice.

And the question here is the higher transfer rate needed

Or for that matter any use on the Board involved which may not be able to handle the higher speed of the SSD.

We where never given enough information to answer this question in any definitive way and while I’ve seen great M’Boards that can transfer things quickly the vast majority in off the shelf systems can not and are limited to Standard SATA Speeds or maybe marginally faster but defiantly not as fast as the current SSD’s can transfer data.
