You have to have DNS in the W2K server (it is the first DC, forget about PDC and BDC when talking about W2K Server.And yes, it can, but you have to delete the DNS from the NT server and recreate another one - secondary zone - on it.
So, no matter what anyone says, there is no way DNS in NT will work once the PDC has been upgraded to Win2K? I need to get this straightened out so that I can explain it clearly to my boss and coworkers...
