Upgrading video cards.

By ssg_cash ·
I have a Compaq Presario SR1320NX Desktop computer. It currently has the factory standard integrated graphics card with up to 64MB of allocated video memory. I will be upgrading to the maximum of 2GB RAM. It has 2 PCI slots (not PCI-E, regular PCI), and one AGP slot. What are my options as far as upgrading video cards for this computer, and what is the maximum size of video card that it will accept?

That depends on your budget

but really, if your bus is AGP, it will handle up to an AGP 3.0 card (ie 8x speed) and I would assume at least 512 MB or ram. Tom's Hardware has decent reviews of video cards, though AGP reviews are scarce. Nvidia 7800(?) and ATI x1600 series are the top agp I think. Expect to spend $150ish lower/mid end and $300ish high end agp.

Thanks. In the spirit of "Forewarned is forearmed" I will no longer be going to the store defenseless.
