I am currently stationed in Afghanistan at a very remote base with a satellite connection for internet. Our Linksys router sh*t the bed, so until I can get this spare 2600 router configured we can only have one computer hooked up at a time, and its hurting morale. Although I am an IT, the Navy has provided me with no network training, so I am operating on the little bit of knowledge that I have from home networking and use of google.
I have been able to configure everything I need on the router, except the most important part for my situation, the NAT. I have read documents on both this site and Cisco, but I just don’t have enough experience to understand exactly what it is that I am doing/need to do.
Normally I would spend how ever long it takes to figure it out, but at this point I would much prefer for it to just to get it up so the guys can talk to their families. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out.
Here is what I am working with:
Satellite modem/gateway IP address is 88.202.18.abc.
I have assigned an IP address of 88.202.18.abd
to my FastEthernet 0/1 interface, and an ip address of 172.16.0.1 to my FastEthernet 0/0 interface for our private network. I have another static IP address, 88.202.18.abe available for use if needed.
I have my DHCP server setup as 172.16.0.254, and it assigns IP addresses/dns servers to my clients as it should. I still can’t see the internet despite fiddling around with a lot of NAT commands.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
