urgent- users disconnected from server

By ronfife ·
My client has a W2k Advanced Server that has been running smoothly for about one month. 33 W98 & W98 SE clients. For the past 3 days, all users have been getting cut off no matter what application or session they're running. They're connected ok forsome time then get randomly disconnected. Have checked Licensing, Event viewer,Device manager, both network cards(two on server, same subnet). Also have rebooted Server. Can't find any obvious problem. Users get error: Lost connection, please check computer application is running on". Do not have electronic analyser to determine if physical layer problem, but can ping ok. Switch indicators show good.

urgent- users disconnected from server

by reference In reply to urgent- users disconnecte ...

probably obvious, but since no one else has replied...have you tried a a different switch? anything, even if it's only a 5 port hub..for testing purposes, and of course to eliminate this possibility. Or try removing one of the NIC cards out of the server..I'm just grasping here!
Good Luck!

Thanks reference@ccaccess,net: Did both; new switch, disabled and unplugged second NIC in server. Had to wait 'till everybody was fed up enough to let me kick everyone off. Seems to be working so far. The second NIC was supposed to be for redundancy. Is there any way to use it but only have it kick in if the first fails? I didn't design this one, and never would have thought of two NICs on the same subnet.
