URGENT: Windows 2000 Power User Rights

    Locked

    by iddy ·

Power users in Windows 2000 have the ability to install some software so long as it does not install a service or attempt to replace operating system files.

Is there a way to grant Power Users the ability to install ANY software, just like the Administrator account.

The reason why I ask is because we have some users which wish to install software on their machines, however they need to be more than Power User to install them, and I am not keen on giving them local Administrator privledges. Is there any way around this?

    Any suggestions?

I’m looking for an answer to this one too. At the moment I have to either go over and type in the administrator password for them or get them to log in locally to install the app.

Move those users to the administrators group or create another user accounts and put them to the administrators group.

I don’t want them to have administrator privileges as then they would be able to lock me out of their machine and I will have no control.

I’m after a way in which I can beef up the Power User account without giving administrator rights.

      Calm down peeps!
Have you tried the Local Security Settings in the Administrative Tools?
In this MMC you can access and set numerous different settings under the User Rights Assignment screen of Local Policies.
There are a number of set tasks available on the machine, and you can add and remove users or groups who are allowed to perform these tasks!

      Regard!

Could you be more specific? I looked where you said though was unable to find anything which matched what I was looking for.

        Thanks
