URGENT:Slow Access/Hangs

By shalinik_in ·
I have a PC in Network (PIII - 64MB RAM with WIN2K PRO)when the machine boots up the memory available shows 3K only, but the machine speed is OK, but after 4-5 hours of work it gets very slow and sometime hangs also. The user work on shared files throughout the day.

I have tried RAM cleaner etc but no much use. I checked out the virtaul memory was specified abt 1000 MB (10GB HDD) which was wrong and I changed it to 240-400MB range.

but still the prob exists...
thanx in advance

URGENT:Slow Access/Hangs

You've confused memory with storage. Physical space on the HDD is storage. Memory is RAM.

Your first sentence says that you have 64 MB RAM -- That's way too little for Win3k. You need to have a minimum of 128 MB RAM.

Your VM is now okay for the amount of RAM you do have, but you need more.

Clean out all *.tmp, ~*.*, Temporary Internet Explorer files (or Cache if using Netscape), etc. You should probably download and install Ad-Aware if this computer access the Internet ( http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/ ), because resources are taken as you use this machine, it sounds like there's something going on in the background.

Delete anything Ad-Aware finds, reboot, and run a scandisk and a defrag. If you have any anti-virus software installed on this computer, run a complete virus scan as well.

The above should help somewhat, but RAM should be doubled at least.
