Did you check the system to see if it supports 2.0,the slow and jerky seems to mean that it is not getting enough power

Open the bios configuration and set usb 2.0,and make sure that 2.0 is compatible with your motherboard

I don't know if this will help...

I frequently create .avi files of game sessions. These files are between 10-30 secs long and can be 100-500MB size, and up to 1028x768 resolution.

Now, if I import the .avi files into Windows Movie Maker and play them, the playback is atrocious - it is unwatchable! If I open the same .avi file in Windows Media Player it plays exactly as I saw it when recording the game.

My system runs XP Pro SP2, has an ATI Radeon 9600XT 256MB graphics card, 1.5GB RAM and a P4 2.8 processor. Therefore, I am not running low on system resources...

So, maybe you could try changing the program you use to view the files?? Like I say, I don't know if this will help you.

Good luck
