USB 2.0 Device causing problems

By jingernut ·
Hi Guys

I have just installed a USB 2.0 CD-Rewriter to my PC but know it has caused both my internal CD-Rom and the CD-Rewriter to report code 31 errors in device manager. I have removed all drivers for the USB device but the error remains. Do you have any ideas on how I can get both these drivers working together without these error messages with re-installing. I have updated the BIOS etc etc

Thanks

Martin

The drivers for the USB CD drive likely overwrote, or disabled the drivers for your on-board IDE controller.

I would download and install the latest IDE bus driver for your motherboard/chipset.

You may have to remove both the Drives and the IDE controllers from device manager and reboot in order to get everything working again.

Is your on-board USB port 1.0 or 2.0?
You may have a legacy problem with the new drive if it is not backwards compatable.

You may need to disable the on-board USB ports, and install a USB 2.0 card.
