USB 2.0 error messages / new printer

by ronnalah . Updated 18 years, 5 months ago

I recently bought a new Canon PIXMA x300. It installed fine, but I began getting error messages stating I can get better speeds by plugging this device into a high-speed USB 2.0 port.

All my USB ports are 2.0 as is my USB hub.

Canon said it was my USB cable. I purchased a new 2.0 printer cable. Still the same error messages.

A phone call to Canon support said that I have to keep the printer plugged directly into my laptop and not the hub. But, if it happens again, I should just turn off the printer and reboot.

It happens sporadically when plugged directly into the laptop.

This is really annoying. Should I just return the printer?

Or is there a fix around this?

I use XP, SP2. And, I’ve kept my Windows updates current.

Thanks.
