What you should be adding is the Make & Model of the M'Board or plug in USB card BIOS or Firmware version and just what is happening. Are the USB ports disappearing every time you shut the computer down?

If they are on board USB ports with SP 2 installed it is possible that their drivers are not Digitally Signed and SP2 is deleting them if that is the case either try to download new drivers from the M'Board maker or remove SP2.

Ussually with Win XP all you had to do was plug in for example a jumpdrive an it will be recognized automatically without any problems. Now with SP2 i have to install the drivers for the jumpdrive everytime i plug it in.

This is iffy but, are you saying that everytime you plug your usb device in you have to go to the management console and assign a drive letter.

Or do you have to install the actuall drivers for the device?

Like i said iffy

Have you tried another usb device and does this do the same thing.

Do you have more than 1 computer in your network and are you using drive mappings?
