USB Chainsaw

By Ed Woychowsky ·
Part of me thinks that this is a joke. Another, part of me asks, "Why?" And, yet there's still a part of me that wants a USB powered chainsaw. Although using it on the computer would on bad days would be a temptation.
It's a Y chromosome thing.

Gotta be a joke.

I can't believe you can pull enough power thru a USB port to run the darn thing. With a 10" bar and a 6' cord, what would you cut with it?

The demo video wouldn't run for me.

Oh, and the ad says 'PC and Mac'. That'll p!ss off the Penguins for sure.

No joke

Power Is a Concern

by TheChas In reply to USB Chainsaw

My biggest concern about this is that the current draw could damage most on-board USB ports. And, could even burn out the power supply on a powered hub.

The amount of energy required to cut a tree trunk of the size shown in the demo is beyond what a USB port can provide. Unless, the USB port is used to charge a battery pack inside the saw.

That is what I was thinking, except

by The Scummy One In reply to Power Is a Concern

it states an 'instant on' and does not mention a battery.

I figure, it might move, but not fast enough to do much more than put some nicks in some wood (the video didnt play for me).
The only other thing I could think is it uses both USB and a power adapter.

I gotta wait and see -- but I am pretty sure I will get one

If so, then why?

If it uses both USB and a power adapter, what's the purpose of the USB connection?

Gotta be a joke.

Well no video for me either

by HAL 9000 Moderator In reply to That is what I was thinki ...

But look at the thing there isn't much room for a battery and I fail to see how it could be so advanced to actually cut wood up to 10 inches think with something less than 500 Milliamperes.

But on the up side I did try to pickup a Paperweight at the local Husky Distributer when I saw it. Cute little thing with a real chain on it and all of a 4 inch blade, The chain brake actually worked and you could even unscrew the fuel cap. Impressive detail till the State Manager showed me it running. It was an actual chainsaw used to prune in Orchids but as it only held a few CC of fuel and even less Blade Oil I fail to see just how useful it actually was.

But as a Paperweight now that is a different story.

Husquvana are going to be very upset about missing out on

by Deadly Ernest In reply to USB Chainsaw

this one.

A great idea for cutting off conversations by unwanted visitors to your desk, and at six feet, the cord's just long enough for the task.

I can just imagine the panic in the office when you start it up, people will wonder what the **** is going on.
