USB Controller Disables after restart

By techy ·
I recently upgraded my AMD 3800+ CPU to a 4200+ dual core socket 939 on an Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard with Win XP pro X64 op system.

Problem is that after I restart or shutdown and turn the computer back on my USB mouse is disabled as is my Joustick. All other USB functions are OK IE: flash drives, my external usb sound card.

The problem is found in Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>Universal Serial Bus Controllers with the problem being the (Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller).

If I go and uninstall or actually disable the device, then scan for hardware changes, and then enable the the device this fixes the problem until I have to restart, then the device is reported to have a problem and cannot start.

I know my hardware to be OK as I have a dual boot system with Vista on one drive and XP X64 on the other, and if I boot into the Vista op system then I have no problem.

I have hooked up a temp.PS2 mouse for nav purposes and it is not effected.

I might add that prior to the CPU change I had no problems with USB and can't really see the connection.

Can anyone shed any light on this very anoying problem please.

Try a different usb port

This is the simplest troubleshooting technique. Just plug that
mouse of yours into another usb port n restart the computer
to see if the same problem occurs.
You said other usb devices are working, this means the usb
host controller is working. However the usb mouse does not
work, this could be a bad usb port problem.

USB Disabled

Hi squirrelonfire,

Thanks, I have tried that. Flash drives are detected, but not pointing devices, IE mouse, joystick. Only way to fix is to disable & then enable the 'Standard OpenHCD USB Host Controller' in Device Manager.
Which is a real pain each time I start the computer.
After this all is OK till restart time.

do you by chance have "daemon tools" installed?

DAEMON Tools is an advanced application for Microsoft Windows which provides THE best optical media emulation in the industry.

if so... remove it it has documented issues with your mobo and x64

USB Disabled

Hi TheVirtualOne |

No that didn't fix it. I have used Daemon Tools for quite some time and never had any problems. You gotta be lucky sometime. Like I said all I did was upgrade my CPU, and I cannot see the connection between the two.
Thanks for the suggestion.
