usb drive not showing in My Computer

By Greg..... ·
I have a W98 SE computer which is suppost to support USB. I have recently purchased a USB MP3 player. I have installed the drivers and it all went fine until I went to use it. It is suppost to show up as another drive in My Computer however it isn't there. IT IS IN DEVICE MANAGER however (without errors). Is there any way I can get the W98 machine to show this as another drive?? I have uninstalled it several times and tried again, I have also downloaded updated drivers from the manufactures site for this MP3 player which is a JNC SSF-310.

Any sudgestions please

Boot computer at the startup screen, press the designated key to enter setup (lower left corner),check the drive configuration or advanced window to see if the USB is set to enable, this may have not been a default in Win98 SE

a couple of things comes to mind.

-try to disable the usb support from in the bios, (usually press del when powering up the pc)
-upgrade the bios of the motherboard. (check with the website of the manufacturer of the motherboard.
-go to www.windowsupdate.com and download the updates for your os.
- i have seen this before with win98, try yo upgrade to w2l or xp.

Are the USB Serial Bus Controllers and the USB Root Hubs and the USB Universal Host Controller showing up @ the bottom of the Device Manager Listing? If not, then you don't have USB installed and may need to add an add in USB card or just simply need a BIOS update (check in the CMOS Setup first though as the BIOS may already support USB and be just shutoff. Like he said above look for (press Delete to enter setup) upon restart. Yours may be anything from F1 to F12, but most are Delete).

Good Luck!
