USB driver

By rbloss ·
My version of Win 98 did not come with a USB 1 driver. I was able to download one from Microsoft download area and installed it and it worked. I since had to reformat and forgot to save said driver. Microsoft does not support Win 98 anymore.I now cannot find that driver or one that will work. Is there a source for a USB 1 driver for Win 98 anywhere?

Microsoft still supports W98.
Most downloads are still available.

I ran Windows update on a W98 system just last week.

Start with this page:

If Microsoft has dropped the driver file you need, most likely, there were problems with the driver.

Even so, I recommend that you download and install the chip-set drivers for your motherboard.
They should contain all the drivers you need.
You can download the drivers from the system, motherboard, or chip-set manufacture.

In my experience, the chip-set manufactures drivers ALWAYS work better than Microsoft supplied drivers.

Do you have the original release of W98?

If you do NOT have W98 SE, you might want to download and install the update for W98:

Among the items fixed by the update are several USB issues.

Microsoft has started to RE-support 98 until June 2006. Too many people are using it to just stop supportting it over night. Try going back to Microsoft update and when you get the driver throw it on a floppy disk and stick next to your monitor. That way you won't have to worry about it. I do that with all my hard to find drivers.
