USB External hard drive and DVD players

By doctorpeebee ·
Hey everyone,
most DVD players (the home cinema kind) available out there sport a special flavor of USB port which only supports flash drives (memory keys). Whenever u plug an external HDD (even a FAT self-powered one), it's just not recognized.
Is there any way to make the player support external HDDs or to have the HDD identify itself as a Flash drive?

Cheers and thanks a lot,

Mainly because the actual DVD player would need to support the HDD itself.

Maybe a different Chip Set in the Enclosure may help here but I really think it's to do with the Embedded OS built into the DVD Player here they just don't have all the available options to accept HDD's of any type.
