      What OS are you using?
Try to download the driver of your USB flash drive, and install it.

I am using windows XP. I think there is no problem with the driver because it works after i reboot my computer or when i put the device before i turn on my computer.

      is this flash drive USB2?

MS produced several USB problems with some recent patches their solution was to shut down the compute remove the mains plug for 2 minutes and then plug back in and reboot.

This generally solves problems with USB Devices on XP.

There can be two problem: 1) FLASH drive itself 2) Driver problem with OS.

If you are using Windows 98 then that problem may occur frequently. With XP you will not have that problem. Uninstall old driver or Flash and Install New drivers from your COMPAQ cd or dvd which may you have or you may have cd with your FLASH drive.

Also check your FLASH drive with someone else’s PC or Laptop with different OS. If it works there nicely then there is no problem with your FLASH drive. So You need to work with drivers only.

There may be conflict if 1.0 version you are using. Check it with vendor.

      Good Luck

if you go to the disk management inside the computer manager

then see if the drive has been recognised and mounted

under XP it may be there is a drive letter clash or similar

drive letter can be reallocated without a reboot

else check in device manager to see if the drive can be seen and you can force a scan for hardware changes

Hi Richard, thanks for your advice, it solves my problem. I just resize my western digital portable (USB) hard drive partition using acronis partition expert from a single 500GB FAT32 (manufacturer default), which already contains 300GB data, to 400 GB FAT 32 and create new NTFS partition 100 GB and format the new partition. After restarting OS, it does not appear in windows explorer. I checked the disk management, and see that OS detects them without drive letters. So, i assigned the drive letter for each partition, and now it works! Thanks.

      Hello Chitosunday,

I have one solution hope you can solve your problem. Did your PC require you to reboot your system after your USB device has plugged? if so please try : Right click on My computer > properties > choose tape Advanced > under Performance click on Setting > Vitual effect > check “Adjust for best performance” > than check on “Custom” scroll the bar to the bottom and check on “Use common tasks in folders”, “Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop”, and “Use visual styles on windows and buttons” >ok
After that click on Setting under “Startup and Recovery” > under the “Write debugging information” select “(none)” > ok

That’s it I have tried it once and it get the good result hope you too!!

      regards,
