Recently I had a problem with my computer which required me to reinstall windows xp a fresh.
In essence it was crashing often and wasn’t in the best of health!
At this time I was also using a wired keyboard an mouse however a couple of months back I was using a wireless keyboard an mouse, but they ran out of battery and I never replaced them..
So anyway, When I reinstalled windows XP I decided that I wanted to use the wireless keyboard and mouse again, so as instructed in the manual I plugged in the receiver and expected it to install itself… however it didn’t, it recognised what the device was that I had plugged in, but wanted to search for the drivers and what not, it couldn’t find the drivers even with the CD plugged in. So i considered the device to be broken.
I have just bought a new wireless keyboard and mouse, plugged it in as instructed and exactly the same thing has happened. I am fairly computer literate and have tried to see if i can find the drivers myself but the installation disc is just a .exe and when I have installed that, it still doesn’t recognise it.
Devices like my new ipod classic worked fine which made me believe that the USB ports aren’t broken but that the drivers were already on my computer, and perhaps that the generic drivers for the wireless keyboard curren’t aren’t on my computer.
I know I am rambling a bit on this post, but I couldn’t think of a better way to describe it than the entire story…
Hope you can help,
Kind Regards,
David
